First it was Larry King, and now Regis Philbin has announced he’s finishing on Live With Regis & Kelly – an announcement that caught many by surprise. The longevity of his career lulled fans into believing the 79-year- old wasn’t going anywhere.

But as Third Age has reported, Philbin is one of several high-profile personalities well north of 70, or even 80, still on the public’s radar.

But unlike Philbin, most of them—like these eight—don’t appear to have retirement on their calendars:

• Barbara Walters. The co-creator and co-host of The View, 81, may talk about slowing down. But given recent primetime interviews with Oprah Winfrey and the First Couple, her appetite for “the get” shows little sign of cooling.
• Betty White. The 89-year-old is “Hot in Cleveland” and seemingly everywhere else. TV commercials, hosting Saturday Night Live and starring in a weekly sitcom have brought new meaning to this star’s golden years.
• Joan Rivers. Not only are her claws sharper than ever on E!’s Fashion Police, but at age 77, she’s embarking on a new reality series with her daughter, Melissa. Titled Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best, it premiered Jan. 25 on WEtv.
• Debbie Reynolds. Unable to shed the “sweetheart” label, Reynolds, 78, continues to charm audiences across the country. Her theater bookings for 2011 are strong, and her official website declares she’s available for lectures.
