2010’s Most Influential Men

Ask Men’s Top 49 Most Influential Men list was as fascinating for some names that were NOT there as for the names that were…

No Tiger Woods, who made No 30 on the 2009 list before his life crashed and burned in January 2010 and hasn’t yet looked like rising from the ashes.

One surprising entrant – at No 48 – was Steve Slater, the JetBlue flight attendant who enjoyed momentary “working class hero” status for abusing a passenger and then exiting via the emergency chute. Maybe a bit of wish fulfilment there amongst men who have secret fantasies of thumbing their noses at authority?

(Slater has since agreed to a plea bargain to avoid jail which includes paying JetBlue damages of $10,000 and accepting drug testing and counselling)

Rule Breakers Rule

AskMen editor-in-chief James Bassil says the half a million fans who voted for the list chose men who broke with convention, “unlikely influencers, guys who didn’t always play by the rules.”

No 1 was TV showman Jon Stewart who “earned his title by speaking frankly, and in the process, successfully engaging millions of ordinary citizens in politics.”

Most consistent performer perhaps was Steve Jobs, who last year was at No 4 and this year at No 3 on the list.

Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Kanye West completed the top 5 places.
