French actor Gerard Depardieu and Robert De Niro have been friends for 30 years, since they appeared in the Italian epic 1900 together. What Depardieu hadn’t revealed was that they first “bonded” when the French star “coaxed” de Niro through a long sex scene with a secret “love” tonic.
According to the Guardian Depardieu (61) revealed last weekend his secret recipe was a combination of water and Tiger Balm, a Chinese heat rub. It was this concoction, he added, that ensured De Niro was able to maintain an erection throughout a scene that demanded full-frontal nudity.
He didn’t mention if it stung any private parts. Directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, 1900 starred Depardieu and De Niro as two friends who come of age against a backdrop of political unrest in Italy. Along the way, they also have a great deal of sex. The film premiered at the 1976 Cannes film festival.
Grampa’s “Lift Me Up”
Depardieu’s tonic couldn’t have competed with the one concocted by Homer Simpson’s Grampa. Marge and Homer’s sex life is struggling, but Grampa perks things up with a homemade revitalizing tonic. He and Homer go on the road to sell their elixir, and Grampa reveals that Homer’s conception was not planned.
Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy was later released as part of a 1999 video collection: The Simpsons – Too Hot For TV, and released again on the 2003 DVD edition of the same collection.
“Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy” received positive reception from television critics, and acquired a Nielsen rating of 9.5.
